That pretty much sums it up. I want that. Call me crazy, call me naive, call me whatever, but that is my truth. I'm willing to give that as well. It's who I am and what I want.

I'm not saying I NEED this. I am happy with the life that I have - I have a fabulous family and terrific friends. I have a warm bed, a roof over my head, and food (and diet coke) in my fridge. I have a big orange cat who adores me and who I adore.

I guess my point is this: My life is good with or without a romantic relationship. Thus, I'm not going to settle for less than the real deal, the whole package. It's all or nothing baby. I know who I am and what I want. I deserve that because I also give that. I am worth it. So, there you go. All of this might sound random to you, but it makes sense to me, and I guess that is all that matters.

Ah Danette - myspace blog post

So I was just across the hall visiting my dear friends Kristin and Danette. As usual, it was excellent to see them. Danette even made banana bread, one of my favorite things. All was well until we started talking about my upcoming birthday. Suddenly, when Danette realized that I was going to be 31, she literally said, "oh shit!" She then proceeded to burst out laughing while Kristin (who isn't far behind me in the age category) and I said, "nice!" The jokes started flying then, and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. Danette tried to explain her reaction by saying, oh I just remember when I thought 30 was so old. Now I guess I think 70 is old. Ha, good try! 30 will be upon you before you know it, youngin!'

Also in the midst of all this, Kristin mentioned that she recently received an AARP membership. What the heck? Soon you will just get one with your driver's license. Oh, you turned 16 today, don't you think it's time to consider AARP?

Anyway, after much howling, I decided to take my greying self back across the hallway so I could attempt to complete some homework. It's a miracle I made it without a walker!

So, I'm in Administrative Law right now, and we are discussing a case that involved a gay man being kicked out of the CIA because he was a security threat. In describing the case, my professor actually said, the man was "a gay." Then, in continuing the conversation, he laid out a spectrum of things that could be troublesome for security purposes, and it went like this: heterosexual adultery, gay and lesbian activity, and then on to something else (he actually said we were past the first two things, whatever that meant). So, in other words, being gay is somehow now worse than committing adultery. This class has been enlightening! I wonder where homosexual adultery leaves one on the spectrum of shady activity? In really rough shape I guess. Perhaps we should ask Senator Craig...

I don't actually think my professor is a homophobe...I think he just needs to rethink his vocabulary and recognize that his statements might be offensive. Anyway, I actually almost laughed out loud in class. I sometimes forget that everyone is not living in the gay bubble. Good times!

How can it be mid-September already? - myspace blog post

Time is flying by again! My birthday is less than three weeks away-what happened to 30? It's crazy! I suppose 40 will be here before I know it. Sometimes I wonder what happened to 18 or 25...I suppose that is the way life works though. Gotta keep moving forward.

In good news, I passed the MPRE (multistate professional responsibility exam for my non law friends; it's part of the bar exam). Some of you might remember that I took this exam in August after very little sleep and virtually no studying. I guess you don't need either to pass! In fact, I did more than pass-I kicked the exam's ass! Yay! I'm really glad to be done with that. I guess a lot of people fail, so it's a relief.

In funny news, I recently purchased a web cam. Now I know some of you are thinking, ah Schmiddy, you have to give up the porn star dream, but in actuality, I bought the cam so I could talk to Sarah in Northampton. She has one too, so now we can actually just talk. It's sort of cool, but it also feels sort of geeky. Anyway, if any of you are ever just dying to have a web convo with me, let me know.

Well, my friend Jane just came to have lunch with me, so I must go. Later skaters!

I'm going to be employed in September of 2008! - myspace blog post

Hi all,

I got fabulous news last week and forgot to blog about it. HLNJ called and made an offer for a job starting in September of 2008! Yay! My hard work this summer really paid off, as now I will have a job when I graduate (well, assuming I graduate, which dear lord I better).

I'm a little worried about my current financial situation however. I managed to save up some money from the summer, but not a whole lot, and I'm currently unemployed. The real problem is that I don't want to be employed right now. I want to just focus on school and then the bar because I will be working plenty starting next fall...the question is whether I can really pull it off this year. Time for a real budget perhaps. We'll see. My extravagance can be a bit insane at times. I like nice things and they like me!

In other news, my sinus infection seems to be almost gone. I'm just really tired a lot now. That's not so bad I guess. Now I just have to catch up in school and all will be good.

Okay, I have to finish my homework for tonight's class. Later skaters.

Labor Day Goings On - myspace blog post

So, long time no write again. Life has been keeping me pretty busy as usual. I'm currently in Omaha, NE visiting my college friend Jennifer aka Kropper and her partner Alice. It's been a really nice get away, exactly what I needed. School is in full swing again, and I just can't get motivated to study. It didn't help that I came down with a sinus infection, which meant all I wanted to do was sleep and drain my head. Fortunately, I'm feeling quite a bit better now. I only cough and feel bad for part of the day. Gotta love antibiotics. I know I do!

In other news, I saw 1776 at the Guthrie last weekend. I think it might be the best show I have ever seen at the Guthrie. I very much enjoyed it. I especially liked how it portrayed the founding fathers as actual people with real lives. It's easy to forget that great people were really just people, and not always great! It's also important to remember that American history often tells only one tiny bit of the story.

I also managed to go camping once this summer (thanks to M, J, K, and P!). Sorry if I already blogged about this, but I can't remember and I'm too lazy to go look. The trip was quite fun, even though brilliant me didn't think to bring a rain coat or even warm clothes. What I thought was going to be a warm day turned into a cold, rainy one. I was absolutely drenched at one point, and the tents had rivers of water running through them. It was all quite amusing, and I eventually dried out (for the most part at least). And, getting into the warm sleeping bag was awesome after that wet day. I also learned that you can eat hot dogs for EVERY meal and they are excellent. Good times were had by all.

I'm still waiting to hear from Halleland on a job offer. It might be a while yet, as they are one of the slower firms in the whole process. That's okay, as I've sort of adopted the que sera, sera approach.

It's been weird adjusting to life in Minnesota without Sarah. I'm not always sure what to do with myself, as she and I spent quite a bit of time together. However, I'm blessed to have many other amazing friends in my life, and I know everything will be okay. The timing is just a bit rough, with the start of class again. That typically kills my social life anyway. Again, I know it will all work out the way it's supposed to. Thanks to all my amazing friends; you're the best!

Well, I should probably go. My hosts have lunch ready for me; yum!

Sorry for the long delay in posts. Things have been crazy busy. I finished up my summer at the firm, and I have to say that overall, it was a great summer. I enjoyed the firm, the people, and the work I did. I hope they make an offer, but if they don't, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Que sera, sera.

In other news, I am of course sick again. Just a cold, but that doesn't help when I'm trying to start school. I think I was just trying to do too much as the summer ended...MPRE, friends, family, etc. Oh well, not much I can do about it. At least it's not strep!

Anyway, once this cold is done, I'm ready to hit the dance floor with my peeps, so shout out if you are ready too! Perhaps it's time for another adventure to the magical place of Lowertown. I could use some campiness in my life.

Time goes by...so slowly...or not. - myspace blog post

I guess I haven't written for a while again (patience folks, patience). Life is seriously flying by these days. What with work and various Harry Potter activities, I barely have time for sleep! I can't believe school starts August 22nd (or something close to that). That gets a major thumbs down, as I'm LOVING having a life again. I love seeing people, meeting people, doing fun things, and not having to study. Alas, if I actually want to BE an attorney, I must complete my third and final year.

As I know you are all dying to know, here's a recap of what I've been up to as of late:

1. The Harry and the Potters concert. When Karen and Paige invited me to go, I honestly had no idea what to expect. I knew the concert was being sponsored by the Mpls Public Library and that it was at a park, but other than that, no clue. Well, let's just say H and the Ps is good stuff. Totally silly, totally dopey, but I also couldn't stop smiling the entire time. Indeed, I even found myself singing/dancing along. How can you not dig a band that promotes reading and shouts out references to various scientific terms, such as ATP (and a bunch of other things I cannot spell)? I also really enjoyed seeing all the different types in the crowd enjoy the show (kids, teens, young professionals, people like my parents, etc.). H and the Ps: a nerdy boy's dream band. I say this with much love. Good times all around.

2. The Aquatennial Torchlight Parade. Okay, this was quite honestly the worst parade I've ever seen. There was no music, and the few floats were totally lame. The parade mostly consisted of various emergency services vehicles. Did you know that the Saint Paul Fire Department has a fan boat (they might actually have a bunch, because the one I saw was numbered 21)? Are there a lot of river fires that need attention? Did we develop a bayou? I know my firefighting knowledge is limited, but I didn't follow. Anyway, this parade also had tons of different pageant winners, but they were from places like Robbinsdale and other suburbs. I don't follow; isn't the aquatennial a Mpls festival? Finally, there were also random high school bands, none from the city. All quite odd, and the whole thing lacked in entertainment value. Boo.

3. Sweeney's. I met up with some school friends and had a few drinks out on the patio. No complaining at all here. Good times.

4. Working like crazy (which involves lunches and more drinks, diet coke for me). I've been putting in quite a few hours at the office, but I'm still enjoying the job. In fabulous news, my bridesmaid's dress still fits, even after all the many crazy lunches. I just have to hold out until Friday now, but I'm not out of the woods yet, as I have a lunch EVERY day this week. Insanity. Fun, but insane too.

5. The Art Car Parade. I went to the art car parade on Saturday, which I think is also part of the Aquatennial festival. Who knew I was so dedicated to the Aquatennial? Not me, but I went with it anyway. Now this was a pretty interesting parade. Fortunately for Karen and Paige, I found us some lovely seats on someone's yard (which was quite uncomfortable actually. The grass was dead, and for a brief while, I missed the lush suburban lawns of my youth). The parade was neat, but because of traffic issues it went rather slowly. Obviously, we had no patience and took off for beverages, where we met the lovely ABB and Tobias. Food and drinks for all, and the memories of the scratchy yard were soon lost.

6. HP 7. I read the entire book on Saturday (well, into Sunday morning actually). I very much enjoyed it, and that is all I will say because I don't want to give anything away to my friends who haven't finished.

7. Twins game. I went to the Twins game with my dad, Sarah, and Carolyn on Sunday. Unfortunately my team did not get the job done. Clutch hitting is lacking, and it's painful to watch at times. Also, the two guys behind us clearly should have just stayed at the office, as they only spoke about business (quite loudly) for the entire game. I feel like I should have had paper and pen ready to go so I could record stock tips. They annoyed me to no end, and I think they even annoyed my dad. I bet they don't even know who won the game. Boo to that.

8. Drinks at Lake Valusek. I met up with two school friends tonight for dinner and drinks at Lake Valusek (aka Karla's backyard with a fountain). Karla made fabulous food and mojitos, and I got to spend time with two fabulous, smart, funny, attractive women. What more can you ask for?

9. Preparing for K and D's wedding. I haven't done tons, but I've been trying to help out. I'm very excited for the big day on Friday, and again, as I said above, I'm relieved my dress fits. I better go with salads all week.

10. Trying to spend time with Sarah (and talk to her) before she leaves. I'm very much in denial about the move...thank God for cell phones (with the same service plan), IM, email, and airplanes. It's gonna be rough.

Okay, so that was obviously more than a recap. I just feel like I've been doing tons of stuff...I wish I had blogged about H and the Ps much sooner, as that experience truly was unique. Alas, I delayed and now words just don't capture the magical evening in Pershing Park.
