More Schmid premonitions

Last week I dreamed my dad was dying from pancreatic cancer. While this might sound shocking, I dream my dad is dying on a fairly regular basis. The dreams are disturbing, but I've done some research and they don't mean he really is dying. That fact only makes them slightly less disturbing, but it's a good thing to know. The dreams pop up for different reasons and often deliver some sort of message (see below). Anyway, I woke up and felt slightly agitated, but because I do have these dreams fairly regularly, because I hadn't heard of anything going on with my dad, and because my mom had a pancreatic scare not too long ago, I didn't think much about it.

Fast forward to today when my dad suddenly mentions that he had a health scare last week - his doctor thought he might have colon cancer and he had a polyp biopsied. Fortunately (very fortunately), the biopsy came back negative for cancer, so Dad is okay for now. Dad seemed VERY relieved, so I know it was not an insignificant scare. Yikes. I hate thinking about my parents being vulnerable, but they are, just like the rest of us. Not a pleasant thing to think about, but I guess that's the circle of life.

Anyway, I'm obviously thrilled my dad is okay, but I'm also amazed at the weird connection I have to my family or those I love. I don't think it's a coincidence that I dreamed what I did the same week my dad was undergoing a serious medical test. Clearly, the pancreas and colon are different things, but that's not the point. I somehow knew in my subconscious that Dad might not be okay and that whatever it was was serious. That's a pretty powerful connection, and it's something I should probably explore more in the future. I'm not sure how to do that really, but it would be interesting to look into.

The rest of my immediate family seems to have the same power, especially my mom. Normally I'm a pretty skeptical person, but over time I've come to accept this as our reality. Doubt if you want - I might too if the roles were reversed. However, this stuff has happened a lot, and my feelings are often pretty close or dead on. I'm not always right, and I can't predict the future or anything, but there is something there. Whatever it is, it's enough to convince this skeptic, that's for sure!

Schmid family premonitions

My sister Samantha went to Tahoe this past weekend for a girls weekend, and she planned to learn to ski while out there. I thought this sounded great, and I was quite excited for her to go. However, before she left, I woke up with a bad feeling about her going. Specifically, I felt worried about the potential for alcohol poisoning, which is odd, since she rarely drinks. So, I called her and said, please be careful if you drink - don't drink too much, etc. She said not to worry, but that she had a dream that she broke her wrist while skiing. I said, wow, that's interesting, we both have a feeling that something will happen to you on this trip. We agreed that she should have a blast yet be careful at the same time.

Fast forward to Saturday morning, when I got a text that she had sprained her wrist! Crazy! I'm not sure what happened exactly, but I thought it was wild that we both had these premonitions. Obviously, mine wasn't exactly right, but I generally had a feeling that she should be careful and that something bad might happen. Then, I talked to my mom last night, and she mentioned that she too had had a feeling about the trip but didn't tell Samantha because she didn't think it would affect her decision about whether to go, and why cause extra worry? Anyway, the point is, the three of us all had a bad feeling about the trip, and then something that Samantha actually dreamed happened! Such premonitions are not that rare for the Schmid women (it actually comes from my mom's mom), but this was a concrete example of one being true. This might sound hokey, but I don't care. It's happened before, and it will happen again. :)

Lesson: if we tell you to be careful, you better listen! ;)
